My journal is not "friends-only" - I post publicly as much as I feel comfortable with doing so. Some entries are protected for various reasons.
I've stopped using "custom filters" now. (I ignore other people's posts asking people to comment to be added or left off some filter because it doesn't agree with how I think filters should work.)
I add and remove "friends" when I feel like it without any warning. (But you can always ask me a question).
If you "friend" me I will notice but it might take a while. I'll probably "friend" you back if: I know you in person; or I can see you have written some interesting posts; or you make a comment on my journal that I like.

A note to my old London/UK friends: I like being on your party invitation (or equivalent) lists. Please don't remove me! But I'm not going to RSVP every time with "I can't come, I'm too far away", so please assume that is the case unless I do otherwise. I certainly hope to visit 'home' sometimes. It just may not be for a while.
